In recent years, the Municipality of Srbac has emerged as an example of stable and sustainable economic development in the northern part of the Republic of Srpska.

According to data from the Agency for Intermediary, IT and Financial Services (APIF), more than 400 business entities are registered in the area of Srbac, with around 170 actively operating. This confirms that the local economy is on a steady upward trajectory, marked by continuous job creation and expanding investment activity.

Crnaja Business Zone – The Engine of Srbac’s Economic Development

The strongest economic momentum is recorded in the Crnaja Business Zone, which has become the focal point of the most significant investments in recent years. Marko Miholjčić, Head of the Department for Economy, Agriculture and Social Affairs of the Municipality of Srbac, emphasizes that the number of companies operating in this zone is steadily increasing.

“Almost 1,000 people are employed in Crnaja, ranging from Drvoprodex and Ensa to companies within the industrial zone and Perutnina Ptuj,” Miholjčić noted, adding that these firms are the key drivers of employment and production in the Srbac area.

In addition to existing companies, the business zone continues to attract new investors. The final phase of construction of a new production facility is currently underway, with operations expected to begin by the end of this year or early next year. This investment will further increase employment and strengthen the industrial potential of the municipality.

Processing Industry and Large Companies as the Foundation of Growth

Several major regional companies operate in the Crnaja Business Zone:

•    Drvoprodex – one of the leading companies in the wood-processing industry, focused on export-oriented production.

•    Ensa BH – a company employing a large workforce and active in the metal-processing sector.

•    Perutnina Ptuj – a renowned food industry giant whose plant in Srbac plays an important role in the regional production chain.

•    Kolektor – one of Europe’s most significant companies in the electrical industry, contributing to the strengthening of Srbac’s modern industrial capacities.

In addition, an incubator facility operates within the zone, providing support for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and offering start-ups and young entrepreneurs more favorable conditions for launching their businesses.

Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises – The Backbone of the Local Economy

Miholjčić points out that the sector of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Srbac has recorded stable growth in recent years. Currently, around 280 sole proprietorships are registered in the municipality, with their number stabilized thanks to the expansion of service-based, craft, trade, and production activities.

The most represented sectors are:

•    Processing industry – employing the largest number of workers, particularly in wood, food, and metal processing,

•    Trade – a significant segment of small entrepreneurship,

•    Agriculture – a traditionally important sector for the municipality of Srbac, with a special focus on livestock farming, crop production, and poultry farming.

These sectors generate the highest revenues and form the core of the municipality’s economic structure.

A Favorable Business Environment Attracts New Investments

Srbac is recognized as a municipality with a favorable geographic position, solid infrastructure, and a stable business climate. Its proximity to the highway, the markets of Banja Luka and Gradiška, as well as connections with Croatia and EU markets, make it an attractive location for industrial investments.

The local government actively works on:

•    improving infrastructure within the business zone,

•    providing incentives for investors,

•    ensuring efficient administrative support for businesses,

•    strengthening cooperation with international companies.

Srbac Emerging as a Recognizable Regional Industrial Center

The steady growth in the number of business entities, the strengthening of the Crnaja Business Zone, the arrival of renowned companies, and the expansion of small entrepreneurship position Srbac among the local communities with the most dynamic economic development in the Republic of Srpska.

With continued investments and job creation, Srbac is positioning itself as a municipality with a clear vision—to develop a modern, sustainable, and competitive economic environment that is attractive to investors and promising for its residents.
