The mayor of Sokolac, Milovan Bjelica, has requested from the Government of Republika Srpska the transfer of ownership of the Nova Romanija Joint Stock Company to Sokolac. He informed high officials about the intention to establish the Nova Romanija Free Business Zone.
In his request, Bjelica reminded that in 2017, the Hamdo Group signed a contract with the Nova Romanija Wood Processing Joint Stock Company to use its capacities. However, the contract was terminated in 2022 due to the company’s failure to comply with its provisions.
The request states that the land in question has a total area of 18.2 hectares, with 40,536 square meters under buildings. Bjelica claims that this area has the potential to become a future business zone as it is located along the M-19 highway, Sarajevo-Belgrade, 50 kilometers from the railway, 46 kilometers from Sarajevo Airport, and 0.9 kilometers from the urban center of Sokolac.
According to him, the land with buildings is documented by the Sokolac municipality as a business zone, and the location has complete infrastructure. He emphasized that within the production circle of Nova Romanija, there are facilities for primary and final wood processing, a social catering facility, and an Autotransport facility.
